Jun 21st, 2007 5:58 PM

Oscar winning actor Jim Broadbent has officially joined the cast of Indiana Jones 4.  The news was posted Wednesday on indianajones.com.

Rumors of the actors casting began last week when Broadbent told britfilms.tv, "I'm doing a cameo in the next Indiana Jones, so working with Mr. Spielberg should be an experience.  I'm going to Yale - I'm a professor."  When asked if he would be replacing actor Denholm Elliot who played Indy's mentor, Dr. Marcus Brody in 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark and 1989's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Elliot died in 1992), the british actor responded, "That would do for me."

Broadbent won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2002 for the film Iris.  He was recently seen in the British hit Hot Fuzz and can next be seen in Anand Tucker's And When Did You Last See Your Father?
